Dreams About Foxes: Their meaning and symbolism.

As adorable as the fox is with its small body, fluffy tail and what looks like a smile on its face, the Fox is really a cunning and shrewd animal. There are plenty of popular sayings that reference the wily smarts of this creature, but in particular “Crazy as a fox” really carries the best description of the fox’s true attributes. Why? Because if you were to watch a fox long enough it may act crazy or seem like it is doing something out of character, but the fox knows precisely what it is doing when it behaves in bizarre ways!

The fox uses trickery when it hunts, and therefore, it becomes a dream symbol associated with cunningness and deception. They will stalk their prey, but will also sometimes play dead until they can pounce as well. And then … the clever little fox might start acting bizarrely, playing around, making prey wonder what it is doing … just until the fox can get close enough to attack!

So, what does all of this mean for you, the dreamer, looking to learn what a dream about a fox means? The fox not only stands for the act of being clever but of using all of the skills you have available to you to get the resolution you desire. The fox in your dream is a message that you will soon face challenges in your waking life that will take a bit of ingenuity to get through.

The dream of a fox can also indicate that someone might try to deceive you by presenting themselves as one thing but being very much another. Foxes are also vocal creatures and, as such, correspond to potential gossip. Foxes hunt alone too, and this may give you a sign that you have to face upcoming challenges alone, without the backing of others. So, do you think you are as “wily as a fox?” Are you prepared for the unique challenges ahead? Will you handle them in a playful light manner or will you feign a “fox’s sleep,” and try to lay low for a while until the difficulties pass?

If you dream that you are playing with the fox, your dream may warn that you are partaking of dangerous behaviors or that those who oppose you have the edge over you based on knowledge they have and you do not. Finally, the dream of a fox might reference the notion that “there’s a fox in your midst.” In other words, you trusting someone you shouldn’t and, in doing so, it’s just like allowing the “fox to guard the henhouse.”

And now you know about the cute-but-oh-so-cunning fox and the shrewd messages he conveys through your dreams. Please continue to enjoy the pages on WhatIsMySpiritAnimal.com to discover a whole host of animal dream messages and their unique meanings.

I dreamt that I saw a dog with a couple of baby red foxes. I later saw them next to my bedroom door (opened to the left), in the dark. The dog (head next to the door) was nursing the foxes, looking up at me. I realized it was the foxes because of seeing the red and white tail of the left one in the light and remembering that I had seen them earlier.

I was given the spirit of a fox from a Native and I dreamt of foxes a couple of times. The first time the fox was my pet and a female. She was orange in color and the brightest thing in the dream. She would always protect me and stay beside me. Someone familiar tried to take her away from me and I became devastated. The second time I was in a building surrounded by people and was working around. I was accepted into this group but wasn’t included in conversations. The fox appeared behind me through a window, fierce and ready to howl. The fox was a darker color, face black with dark red fur and black legs and tail. Fox had a mystical feel about her. She would growl at anyone that got close or talk to me. At first it only looked like the growl was to me and ready to attack me, but she was never looking directly at me. I tried to protect the fox but the fox still growled at everyone that came close or passed by

My dream was about an upcoming trip to Florida for some scuba diving. I saw two grey foxes but at different points in the dream. I do not remember the first one but I remember the second one. It was a kit sitting in a snowbank. I stopped to pet it. Weirdly the fox let me, but I got up, went to my vehicle and drove of to the dive shop. I do not remember anything else.

This is fascinating because I recently had a dream about 3 ceramic foxes in bed, and a 4th bed where a real red fox slept peacefully. We were in a fairy tale kind of cottage. I was with a female friend and I urged her to stay quiet in order to let the real fox sleep peacefully for now. I had no idea what it all meant until I read your article and learned that foxes pretend to sleep while hunting. I believe now that the dream was instructing me to ‘lay low’ at this time of my life, which is, fascinatingly to me, exactly what I’ve been thinking I should do but wasn’t quite sure. Thank you so much for this article.
