It is not always easy to shake our misgivings, but Wolf Spirit is there to lend you support. The more you run from something, the more likely it becomes you’ll run smack-dab into it.

Sometimes Wolf calls on us to become the proverbial Lone Wolf. People in your life often provide ideas and encouragement, which only mucks up the possibilities you’re considering. It’s time to break away from that pack to discover the Sacred Self. During times of aloneness, you rediscover your dreams and passions. You also start uncovering the power of your voice, howling at the moon with abandon!

Wolf Spirit Animal

wolf spirit animal 1200x630

As a Spirit Animal, Wolf comes to support and teach us about matters of personal power, balance, self-control, and animal instincts. No one should ever steal your energy, mentally, spiritually, or physically. It is one thing when you offer aid and another when someone abuses your kindness.

Wolf’s message here is simple: you control the narrative. Trust in everything your senses tell you. Pick your battles carefully, only initiating combat when predators enter your circle. Always ask yourself how you’ll feel about your actions when you look back later in life.

See, Wolves are misunderstood by many to be aggressive, vicious animals who attack with no provocation. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, Wolves go out of their way to avoid fights. However, when they want to stave off or deter an attacker, they will stand their ground. Set your boundaries and stick to them.

Humans are Animals, and sometimes we overlook the gifts from nature that are already within us. Life has an order and rhythm. When you run with a pack, there is a sense of community, and when you’re alone – liberation.

If you are unsure where your circle lies, Wolf’s howl helps you find others of a like mind. It also allows you to mark your territory clearly should anyone threaten that sacred space. Don’t be afraid to make your position known.

Wolf Totem Animal

wolf animal totem 1200x630

If you were born with a Wolf Totem, you have an innate connection with Nature and a craving for freedom. The love of family and friends runs deep, but sometimes you just need to be alone. At first, people may not understand this, thinking they’ve done something wrong or off-putting. Let them know everything is okay before you go into isolation, allaying their worries.

If your birth totem is a Wolf, you have natural devotion. Where you have built ties, you strive to protect them. You resonate with the intense instincts of a Wolf, constantly keeping you vigilant in the face of potential danger. Wolf energies connect you to your primal nature and inner power. The only caution here is to avoid becoming fixated and overly cautious and end up missing opportunities.

Those born with Wolf Medicine in their soul simply understand how to help balance the world and aid in the creation of a more fertile and abundant ecosystem for all. As a result, Wolf people often find themselves attracted to jobs focused on conservation. It’s an ideal choice and one in which they’ll thrive.

The Wolf Totem has a connection with Divine Feminine energy and the Moon. If you pay attention, you’ll notice subtle changes as the moon enters each phase. You can work with those transformations once you discern them. Don’t gloss over your spiritual perceptions.

Wolf keeps you focused on community dynamics. Gatherings are essential to staying connected, and you often end up as the leader of the pack-a facilitator. You naturally want to protect the young or old. Here, Wolf’s path may lead to a place of nurturing or protecting others close to you.

Those who walk with Wolf sometimes don’t trust themselves as much as they should. When you find yourself falling into that emotional pattern, rely on your keen mind and logic to renew balance. Connect with your inner Wolf.

The critical caution for Wolf people is your predatory nature. The wolf seeks out the weak, sick, and elderly. Rarely will a Wolf prey on a robust, mature adult. Surely Nature has a reason for this, but in terms of symbolism for humans, the lesson here is to ensure that you do not prey on those who cannot stand against you.

Wolf knows when to fight and when to walk away. Focus on finding positive ways to put that predatory energy to work in your life! Look at your goals and dreams, and put plans in place for manifestation.

Wolf Power Animal

wolf power animal 1200x630

Before you summon Wolf medicine from within to be your Power Ally, be very certain you can handle it. For eons, humans and wolves have been bound together emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Because of this bond, when you call on Wolf as a Power Animal, it will appear, and its presence can feel daunting. There is nothing to fear, so try to relax and engage.

Seek Wolf Medicine for assistance with creating emotional bonds. You want to trust the people in your pack. Once those connections are made, the inward Wolf Power Animal defends your circle with ferocity, often using wits and words over physicality.

Along the same lines, the Wolf within understands group dynamics. Humans often do NOT. When associations you have get out of whack energetically, bring out your Wolf. There’s is an Alpha ready to lead and put things back on track.

Wolf is a suitable helpmate when there is a rival vying for your territory; in these situations, seeing through Wolf’s eyes helps you move swiftly and confidently. Your home is your sacred space, and you have the right to protect what you love.

Wolf Spiritual Meaning

Wolf Spiritual Meaning 1200x630

What does a Wolf symbolize spiritually?

Wolf was significant in Roman lore as the story goes that Rome was founded by Romulus and Remus, who were twin brothers responsible for the founding of the city of Rome. It is said that the two were abandoned at birth and raised by Wolves. Romulus later kills Remus, demonstrating the ferocity that Wolf is often associated with. Throughout the Roman Empire, Wolf is a symbol of Roman culture and of the Empire itself.

As such, Wolf embodies the intelligence and focus but also the predation Rome displayed in their eagerness to conquer neighboring lands, even to their eventual demise.

Among the meanings of Wolf in Norse lore, Fenrir was a powerful Wolf brought to Asgard by Odin. Fenrir is said to be one of the children of the trickster God, Loki. Odin had intended to dominate and tame Fenrir but found this task to be more difficult than he originally expected. It is said that Fenrir could not be restrained until finally enchanted ropes did the trick. This suggests the free spirit of Wolf and the meaning of Wolf being unbridled instinct that can’t easily be suppressed.

The Huichol people, who live in Mexico, like other indigenous groups, believe Wolf is the Ancestor from whom their Ancestors descended and also believe in the ability to shapeshift between human and Wolf form. Wolf is known as Kumukemai and is an integral figure in their lore and culture.

Wolf spiritual meaning can also be seen in the variety of similar stories about this animal. Werewolf stories are found in many cultures and still fascinate people today. Pop culture celebrates these creatures in modern books and movies. Why are we fascinated by the idea of people turning into Wolves and vice versa? Perhaps it is because we feel permitted to express our primal, urgent, wild emotions when we see Wolf within ourselves. Perhaps we see Wolf as a safe vehicle to cathartically express our emotions.

Wolf is also associated with freedom and rediscovering Divine Feminine power. Clarissa Pinkola-Estes popular book Women Who Run with the Wolves helped generations of women reclaim their own feminine power through archetype, especially that of the Wolf. The connection is not only to the Wolf mother protecting her cubs, but also the connection to the Moon and thus to Feminine energy and cycles of transformation.

Even though Wolf is often associated with the Shadow side of predation and aggressive energy, Wolf Spirit Animal is actually quite feminine. In Tarot, the Moon card is often associated with Wolf as well. The Rider-Waite-Smith deck shows an image of a Wolf and a domesticated dog, standing separated by a river, both gazing up at a Full Moon.

The meaning suggests that within us all is the “civilized” and tame version of ourselves juxtaposed with the wild and instinctive aspect of ourselves represented by the Wolf. When we have to be keen and perceptive, protective and ferocious, loving and devoted, loyal and nurturing, we are drawing on the Lupine side of ourselves.

Our cultural fascination with werewolves and the Wolfman monster also suggests our conflicted relationship with our own emotion and instinct. We both want to be free to express ourselves but we may also fear being “taken over” and consumed by the Wolf-like part of our nature.

Wolf spiritual meaning suggests that we may have to walk a fine line between honoring our instincts and keeping them in check. You may be called to examine whether you are suppressing your instinctual nature so far because you fear the depths of your emotional and subconscious nature, yet great power and wisdom may await you if you explore these depths.

From this group, the Cherokee would seek War Chiefs when needed, Illustrating Wolf’s role as responsible for staunch protection when necessary.

In almost every tribe, Wolf is a prominent figure. Wolf stories tie them to hunting, protection, loyalty, strength, and success. In Northwestern tribes, they see Wolves as close relatives of humans with powerful Medicine. For example, the Quileute and Kwakiutl believe that Wolves transformed into the first humans.

Many Native tribes include Wolves among the most important of the Animals with whom they commune and connect in ceremony and ritual. There are many reasons for such respect. Wolf is a cunning teacher and an adept hunter. Their stamina aids with survival and their ability to outwit their predators is outstanding. If you told a Native they hunted like a Wolf, it was a huge compliment.

In early history, the Native Americans’ lives were much like the Wolf. Both hunted to feed their families. When enemies came near, they defended their space. Wolves have a highly developed social order and show devotion by mating for life. When push comes to shove, there is always a choice. Live with dignity.

Story of Two Wolves (Cherokee)

A young boy’s grandfather used the Wolf to teach a moral lesson. He told the boy of a fight going on within-a fight between two wolves. One is good. He is peaceful, loving, kind, honest, compassionate, and generous. The other is evil. He is envious, angry, greedy, arrogant, and egotistical.

The grandfather went on to explain how every person has the same battle raging within. The boy asked, “Which wolf will win?’ The grandfather replied, “the one you feed.”

Wolf Christianity Symbolism

Wolf Christianity Symbolism 1200x630

Wolf serves as an important parable in Christianity symbolism. Though Wolf’s role in Christian lore tends to be less than flattering. Christian symbolism focuses on Wolf as the diametric opposition to another important symbol in this religion: the Lamb.

Lamb represents Christ because of this animal’s gentle nature and connection to purity and innocence. Lambs are docile and subservient and live in herds that must be influenced and protected by the Shepherd. Thus, Christ is the protector of the Herd (humans), yet part of it.

In this mythos, it makes perfect sense to stage Wolf as an archetypal predator of the Sheep. Wolf is cunning, crafty, and sometimes a trickster. In a negative light. Wolf can “feed” off the innocent and unsuspecting. Here we see how Wolf infiltrates the flock, it becomes an evil influence.

Now the Wolf is an adversary, a warning to those who are the antithesis of Christ’s teachings. This designation is described in the Bible (Luke 10:3), which reads, “Go your ways, before I send you forth as Lambs among Wolves.” In Genesis, Wolf symbolizes greed and avarice, using intelligence and deviousness for selfish purposes.

Not all Christian stories are negative in regard to Wolves, however. There is also a well-known tale of St. Francis and the Wolf of Gubbio. In this account, the people of Gubbio were afraid of a Wolf who was lurking in their town, no doubt just trying to survive like they were. St. Francis, known for his compassion and connection to animals, successfully negotiated with the Wolf, showing that love conquers fear. He ensured the safety of the village without resorting to violence or attacking the Wolf.

This parable is an important one even now. We may sometimes perceive an enemy where there is none. Or, we may have to find a way to work toward a middle ground. Take the diplomatic path!‘

This was an amazing article! I have many friends, including myself, whom share the characteristics in this article on the wolf spirit! But i didnt write this comment just to compliment, I’m writing this comment to ask you about a certain series of dreams I have called rebellion dreams and what they mean.
In the first one, I am in my dwelling(bedroom) and I am suddenly surging with red and blue, temperate, flames. (Red and blue are my fav colors btw) then my mind and spirit find…(themselves?) on a see-through staircase travelling into space or heavens. Atop the stairs, all the gods mankind has conceived is combined into one figure, whom shifts between the gods as they speak to me. Long story short, in this series of dreams, I have superpowers(telekinesis, flight, and eyes that can read the mind and soul) and I lead a rebellion group called the Wolf Pack in which most of us have different powers. We rebel (with many other groups) against a world government that has tooken away our right to belive in different beliefs. When I use my powers, red and blue energy, in the shape of a wolf, comes from my body. What started the war was when the government’s military shot and killed innocent protesters. Including children, which angered me because it showed how the government is ruthless. My dreams continue to this day. I hope you can get through this comment with ease and tell me what all it means. Thank you for your time.

    • Bernadette King says:

      Hello, Xavier!

Thank you so much for the kinds words!

What really stands out to me in your “Rebellion Dreams” is how very much like Wolves you really are. Wolves are about the pack – the family. They will protect the pack to the death. And, you dream of superheroes who protect the innocent from a ruthless government. And, the colors you love most take the form of a Wolf and jump from your body when it’s time to “protect”.

Now, what’s realllllllyyyy interesting about your dream is the colors. Red is the color of blood, family ties, and passion. Blue is the color of peace and tranquility – but also of the heavens. Red is the color of the Root Chakra – it’s the energy center of survival. Blue is the color of the Throat Chakra – it’s the energy center of communication and Wolves are extremely vocal animals.

The see-through staircase tells me that you are a transparent person who does not understand why it’s so hard for people to do the right thing. You definitely resonate with higher purpose and powers. It also seems that you are not afraid to fight for others.

At the end of the day, it seems that your soul is truly longing for a world where everyone is safe and free.

      Hope that helps!

      Stay wild,
      Bernadette

I would be interested in learning more about your group. I also have telekinesis and many other talents. I’m just beginning to scratch the surface and have been trying to do most research on my own. I believe we may have a lot of the same perspectives.

      • Xavier Hutchinson says:

Interesting name btw. Spur of the moment or just wanted to sumerise the fact that your interested? Any who, sense I don’t know you, showing support for The Wolf Pack is all we need. For you to join you would have to be someone I know. And I couldn’t just meet you because of this being the Internet. (For all we know, you could be a preadator) We are planing to get the pack official by May. We are basically a brighter rebellious group than Anonymous(because people think they are evil). Sure we may be just a bunch of kids, but we are a pack that cares about the world they live in. Reply to me if you have more specific questions.

  2. Süli Ákos says:

Hi! Hope you will read this comment and can tell me what the hell happened. (I am 13 years old)
One day I meditated to find my spirit animal. After that I knew that it was a Wolf. It was so welcoming and friendly – I could even hug him. Next day I went to a bicycle tour. I tried to meditate with my eyes open. My spirit animal told me that if I don’t stop doing this and if I don’t concentrate on the road, then I will have a accident. I stopped it and that day went down without any problems. I was in a camp, I meditated at night, and he said that I need to live with peace with everyone – I had a conflict with a 7 year old boy, and after making peace he immidiately tried to fight me again – and to have fun while I am here. The next day I did not make peace with a boy and on that day – I had a ankle injury and my leg got plastered for 1 week. One week later the Wolf gone. I had a Dog spirit animal to heal me after that happened. Now I have a Breaver spirit animal guide.
Did he predict a future? Was that a warning? I have now faith in Nature and the whole culture of Spirit Animals. Thanks for the time that you taking to read it all!

    • Bernadette King says:

      Hello, Süli!

Thank you for sharing that amazing story! For someone who is only 13 years old, you are very, very spiritual! Wow! So, awesome!

There are many different ways to interpret what happened to you. So, based only on what you explained, here is what I think might have happened:

      1. You can meditate with your eyes open. It’s called “active meditation”. Athletes do this all the time – they call it “being in the zone”. Artists do this as well. However, when your Spirit Animal Guide came to you and said to “focus on the road” – this was a warning. Maybe your Wolf knew there was a bump or crack in the road coming up and he/she wanted you to see it.

      2. Making peace with a 7 year old: This is a very big part of your story because you listened to your Spirit Animal Guide and wanted to make peace with everyone. This could be considered as you deciding on a “foundation” for your life – that you always want to live in harmony and peace with the world around you. Interestingly, Wolves go out of their way to avoid fights. They are not aggressive until they are backed into a corner.

      3. When you injured your ankle, it could be a sign that you “rocked or injured your foundation”. Meaning – our feet and ankles are what support our whole body – they are our “foundation”. When you went against (had a fight with) another person, this made your “foundation of peace” unsteady. Hope that makes sense.

      4. When the Dog came to heal you, this could be a sign that it is time to get back to a place of unconditional love for all. When Wolf told you to make peace with everyone – the only way we can really make peace is to love everyone no matter what they say or do. Now, that does not mean we have to let others be “mean or bad” to us. However, by being at peace with everyone it means we try to look past their “meanness” and love them despite how badly they act.

      5. Beaver as a Spirit Animal Guide: This makes complete sense because Beavers are all about working as a community. And, we can only work together as a collective when there is peace between people.

      6. Can Spirit Animal Guides predict the future: Yes. Absolutely. Now, I have no “scientific” proof of this but I’m a professional psychic medium. And there have been hundreds of times that my own personal spirit guides have given me accurate information about a client’s future. So, it just makes sense Animal Spirit Guides can see into the future. After all, every living thing is connected – we are one energy. If I can do it, so can an Animal Spirit Guide.

I think one day you will be a great leader of people. It shows in all your Spirit and Totem Animals that come to you.

Hope all this has been helpful.

Thank you so much for answering my questions! I learnt alot from that! I had alot of spiritual experiences in the past too – wise, guiding voice in my head, and I had an experience when I felt someone followed me, then that voice told me that calm down, it is a dwarf who tries to be friends with me. That happened when I was 8 years old. -, those are not that not surprises to me, but that one was soo spiritual that I could’nt process it. Thank you again soo much, have a nice day!

Bernadette, What are the chances that the “road” that the Wolf wanted her to pay attention to is her path through Life. and not just the road she was bicycling on at the time? I have learned that when my guides, animal and otherwise, tell me something there is always more than one level to their meaning. Always. Just a thought.Jo

Hi! I hope you read my message.
Your article is very interesting and helpful.
I am always fascinated by a wolf. I want to have a wolf dog. I am amazed to see a wolf tattoo and if I will be reincarnated, I want to be a wolf. I feel peace to see a wolf. I have done research about Wolf spirit animal and the characteristics matches mine.
I am always kind and friendly to everyone and I don’t like arguments at all. I am always chill but when people try involve my family or close friends I get really mad that I will do anything to end them. Does it mean wolf is really my spirit animal?

If so, how can I call or meditate my spirit animal?
I am hoping for your reply. 🙂

    • Bernadette King says:

      Hello, Rein!

So happy you enjoyed my article about Wolf as a Spirit, Totem, and Power Animal! It’s one of my favorites!

Actually, what it sounds like is Wolf is your Totem Animal – who you “are”. A Spirit Animal is a guide who appears when we need support, guidance and healing. And, a Power Animal is animal energy that you call on from inside yourself whenever you need it.

It’s not unusual for someone to have 1 animal that they most identify with. That animal can serve as their Spirit, Totem, AND Power Animal. For instance, mine is Bear. It’s the animal which most appears to me and I’m JUST like a Bear!

One way you can know for sure is to read my ultimate guide on “How To Find Your Spirit Animal” and work through the Spirit Animal Meditation.

      Sure hope that helps!

      Bernadette

For a very long time i have been a very empathetic person.. i am very sensitive to other energies i am around whether it be a person or animal. Ihave dreams of many different types of animals but mostly the wolf and the fox.. both if these animals are what pop into my dreams most if the time.. tonight for example, though i don’t remember much of the dream.. i was a wolf.. i was in a small pack of 3 or 4 of us.. we were hiding, but we were hiding because we were watching.. we were helping a person (may have been a girl) in need by attacking on coming danger.. so we were hiding and waiting for this danger (which was in the form of people) the people were just dark figures with blank faces.. it felt very real.. i was running and attacked these faceless shadows with ferocity… i was even speaking to this person we saved after the attack was over, though i dont remember what was said.. and then i woke up.. there was another dream i had a while back that was weird.. i was watching, from what looked like a screen, my horse running on the beach, then it started to jump and dig into the sand (similar to how a fox does) then i was next to the hole the horse dig and it was very very deep.. well as the horse stopped digging, a wolf started to climb out of a buried cave in the ground and began attacking the horse, then it flashes to me watching a screen again of what is now a pack of wolves eating my horse… (sorry if this is a little gruesome).. ive had fox dreams where i have found an abandoned fox and sometimes it will run sometimes it wont..then sometimes it will bite me.. but wolves appear more often than anything else.. with that eing said..a little info on me.. im always usually a loner..i feel more comfortable alone vs being in a crowd.. im not someone who has many friends.. mainly because it is difficult for me to connect to most members of the human race.. i feel a closeness more woth the earth, with animals, with the stars amd the universe… but rarely do i feel anything for most people… i do have a few close ones..they are what i call family..yes some of them include my actual blood family.. i will never ever hurt a living thing (including people)(as a massage therapist it is my oath), but i will fight to the death to protect anyone i consider family (not many people).. i will destroy anyone who even tries to hurt my people.. however, with animals it is different.. i hate seeing any animal struggle or in pain..i hate seeing the earth in the condition its in.. i hate that i cant travel to other planets.. i almost feel like im stuck on a planet im not meant to be on with people i cant relate to… i was certain that my animal spirit is the wolf..i meditate atleast once a day.. but im still not sure.. because i see so many and have such a strong connected feeling to many animals and the earth and universe.. i feel loke sunconciously i know everything to tell myself with all of this and with any provlems i have, but its like a natural higher understanding and knowledge is hidden in a locked box in my mind and i cant find it.. like i know what to tell myself with all of this..but i cant find the words…so, though subconsciously i feel i already know the answers and just cant reach them, does anyone have any ideas that can help me to better figure this out?…

    • Danielle says:

I should also mention that i am someone who is very nice to everyone i meet.. i smile at everyone and in general a happy person.. and i will avoid confrontation as much as i can unless it is absolutely needed.. and i feel more energetic and awake at night.. just what im used to…

    • Bernadette King says:

      Hello, Danielle;

Many folks who visit WhatIsMySpiritAnimal.com feel more comfortable around animals than people (even though humans are animals, too). And, given what you shared about yourself, the dreams about being a ‘watcher’ make perfect sense. If I understand correctly, you feel like you’re on the outside looking in.

All that said, I’m unclear exactly what you’re trying to figure out. If you will please give some clarity on the question I’ll do my best to help you!

      Stay wild,
      Bernadette

      • Danielle says:

Thank you so much for your reply.. yes i always feel like im on the outside looking in..i have always been the tyoe of person that just watches and listens.. not really a big talker around people..ive always felt like im not even from this world.. like there is something more to life than what i see, as if this life i see is only one of many going on at the same time..i feel like ive been put here for some big purpose that im not aware of yet.i feel like i am just waiting for something.. (explaining the best i can i am sorry if it doesnt make sense..it makes more sense in my head).. well i guess what i am trying to figure out more is if my animal spirit guide is in fact a wolf.. i have done several guided meditations and several unguided meditations, but i can not me sure if the wolf is indeed my animal spirit or just an animal i am more like.. i have a powerful connection to all animals, but i notice little things that peak my interest, such as, some dogs seem bothered by my presence, but i can pick a cat up off the street randomly and it will be nice to me, cats are never aggresive towards me, most animals arent..so is it possible to have a wolf animal spirit guide, while also having the aspects and traits of others as well? I apologize if these questions are too vague. I do feel a very very strong connection to the wolf, but i dont know if it is indeed my animal spirit guide or just my imagination (which, for me,can be more powerful than anything else it seems.) The times that i have meditated i have seen a wolf.. but i have also seen others.. i am just not sure on what could be true.. but at the same time i am not sure if i have just one, or many.. i feel a strong connection to all animals, really everything around me.. even people.. plants..everything… and always have.. i am more at peace in nature than i am in anything man made.. so is it possible to have one or many animal spirit guides?.. i know this long and i go a little off topic, but i dont have many people around me that are openminded and who dont laugh or sneer at things i talk about, so i would love anyones opinions on all of this..

I found this information very interesting, and was wondering if there is any information about a white female wolf with honey coloured eyes. I feel her presence the same way
I used to feel the cheetahs presence as my spirit animal. She has come to me tonight in the last 30 minutes. She is calm and her eyes are full of understanding and wisdom and I feel a connectedness to her I can’t explain.
I’d love your interpretation on this.

So I’ve been having a problem at work. And on Friday when I got home I was thinking. I’d rather be with wolves then with hyenas. I started howling like The wolves so much so that my cat nip that me. Then on Sunday I had to use a dream about wolves. Wasn’t bed and I heard noise in the house and and my cat was alarmed but calm as well. So in this lucid dream. I got up and went into the kitchen and lo and behold my kitchen was full of wolves. It felt I was being protected. Wolves just lying in my kitchen. The wolves were just there calm as can be and I walked right in the middle of them and they just stood there lying down resting. There were about six or more large wolves. Then I walked back to my bedroom as calm as can be and got into my bed and looked around and then I saw that two of the wolves had followed me into the bedroom they got on the bed with me one was white and the other was white and brown like a German Shepherd . Then they just left went back into the kitchen. Then I saw a figure standing next to me next to my bed it passed something over me and then left. It was so real. I mean really so real that I felt like they were really there with me. And I remember telling myself this is special. And all the while that it was going on there was an illuminated ‘ light’ like it was dark but I could see.. Wow I have had lucid dreams before but this eas yeah! Real! WORKING WITH ANGELS WISDOM POWER LOVE BLESSINGS… ??

For the last three months wolves have been showing up on a regular basis. Not the literal, physical wolf, but wolves in books, letters, people’s comments, dreams, and television. I am intuitive, an empath, and psychic. I am in a state of transition, discerning what I want to pursue next. I feel like the wolves are working overtime to give me a message or to protect me as I walk in the inner core of my being. Can you intuit what may be going on? Or, if not, could you direct me to a resource where I can receive an authentic reading. By the way, I do not believe the wolf is my Totem Animal (I have reason to believe that the Panther and the Deer are my official totems).

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Blessings

Sounds like you have a pack of wolves doing whatever in their power to protect you at every step of the way. This is my spirit animal an I have strong feeling for you to find a person thats Cherokee Indian an that is involved with Indian medicine that can better explain this to you to make you more comfortable about the pack protecting you for the ease of anxiety on yourself about the situation.

    Great article!
I came here out of curiosity and try to meditate.
When I did the meditation I experienced something weird, I came back to my 10 or 9 year old self (I don’t know why) and walking at the place like Antarctica. While walking, there is a big white wolf with blue eye like clear sky and taller than me. We face each other and we stay silent for I don’t know how long untill I getting closer to it and hug it like an old friend, the feeling I get is warm and kind of nostalgic. After that the wolf guide me to a door and I come back to reality.
I hope you want to help me because I don’t understand at all.
    Thank you

  15. JJ says:

    Hi
I feel total lost and confused and I am trying to find myself and seeking truth about everything.
I read your article and reply to comments above so I hope you read mine too and I hope to have a reply.
I will try to make it as short as I can.
I am 24 and I was raised in strong Christian family background. Most of times I tried my best to be good daughter of family and of Christ. But for some I do not feel same way. I do not know if the God I knew is true or not. I feel being tied up like in cage. I want to be free but exactly do not know what kind of freedom. I feel like I am in total wrong place and I have to escape this place. I am okay with group but more I like being alone and I am always recharged when I am alone. Sometimes I feel like I am living a fake life and truth is something else but I am blinded to see it. I feel like I do not belong here. Birth, family, money, education, death…only these can not be the purpose of life. I feel theres more to it especially spiritually like there is so much more beyond our thoughts and physical eyesight which we can be able to connect through some help. I met a group who were being guided by wolf spirit and they told me its part of spiritual awakening. I was born on Feb 6th, according to article my zodiac sign is wolf. Does this mean I can get connected to wolf spirit as well? If yes, I have called out so many times for wolf spirit guide or my spirit guide, why it does not appear to me.? I have never seen any in real life or dream or got any sort of message. I feel bad about it. Or can it be that some like me may never have any spirit to guide?
I also love being with nature. I love to hear the small different sounds of nature and love its smell. I researched about my ancestors and I found that they worshipped mother nature. I do not like how people especially in my place are destroying nature and not think about it and just keep poluting everything.
About family and friends, I never felt being a part of my family. I am their blood but I always felt like I am an outsider and I owe them for raising me up. I fee like they do not understand me and I do not belong with them. Although I love them and it feels bad to see them hurt cause of me. I have always tried my best to be good daughter for them but now I feel like I have to find my path matter what. It will hurt them alot if I say them I do not believe in Christ anymore and I feel bad about it. I wish to go far from them as quickly as I can and do what I have to do without letting them know and hurt. I do not have lots of friends, I never had. I am okay being alone and if I have friends I always have few like 2 or 3 that I like to count as friends. But when I have such friends I am ready to help them in all possible way I can.
I am telling you all these cause I thought its better to let you know little about self before you can reply. I am trying to collect as many ideas and views about myself so I can learn truly who I am cause I am in total choas state and I need to find my path. When I am alone I am always talking so much with inner self and creator asking for guidance and help. Thinking what lies beyond my physical eyesight and if I can ever know it and much more stuffs.
I would appreciate if you share your view honestly with me about what you felt by reading all these.
    Thank you.

Several years ago, the spirit of the wolf revealed itself to me, confirming what i had believed. “The wolf is with me.” After that, wolves of all sorts began appearing in my dreams. Night, day, winter, spring, teaching, and protecting. The messages have been deep and enlightening but one stands out. The general description is, i am standing in a circle of raised ground held up by stone pieces as big as my feet and around me on the raised ground stand nine wolves. They stand, as if waiting. It is cloudy with fresh snow on the ground. After a moment i turn to look out the opening in the circle behind me in response to the call of an elk. I run in the direction of the call and soon find the wolves running with me. I feel happy and confident at that moment. Thank you for this article and videos. “How wolves change rivers” gave me insite to why i want to change the world. Perhaps with the right change, a “tropic cascade” can result for humanity.

I had a dream recently where I was in a forest, with 4 wolves. We were all playing around. I was in human form. Then there was a commotion, we heard noises in the distance. I suddenly transformed into a wolf, and the other four wolves transformed into white sprit wolves (invisible only I can see their shadows), and they all started running, and I started following them, as they were moving through the trees(I had to move around the trees). As I began to catch up to the wolves the dream ended. It felt so real!

I have been looking for answers for many questions in my life. I recently tried meditation and during the session, in a vision, I was out tracking big game animals like elk and deer in the mountain forests. I first heard the sound of howling and some time passed and I soon noticed a lone white wolf standing before me. I have heard that the first animal you encounter in such a state of mind is likely your spirit guide. what does this mean for me?

  22. Michelle G says:

When I was very young I had a dream that I was being chased by a wolf I could not see it and I was terrified. I was then inside my home looking out the window and could still feel the heat and breath on me and the world looked red hued to me. I woke up and I was under my covers sweating profusely and thinking back on it now I feel it was telling me to wake up because I couldn’t breath.
The second time I dreamed of a wolf was when I was 39. I was standing in a dense green forest and a big silver wolf came and stared at me and said telepathically “You are our sister now.” I felt very at peace as if I had known this all along and then I woke up.
I have always been a very loyal, quiet, intuitive and do not trust easily. I always joke I am a Beta Wolf because I can’t stand confrontation but if anything happens to the Alpha I would step in and be the Alpha no problem because I would not be afraid to protect what is mine. I would really like to know what it meant and means to be told that I am now their (wolves) sister.

Hello! Thank you so much for writing this article! I really loved it! I have always wondered though – how do you know what your spirit animal is? I have always been pulled towards the wolf but I dont know if it’s just because I like the animal or if thats my spirit guide….? Any ideas on how to learn what your spirit animal is? Maybe you can help me out.. I will tell you a little bit about myself.. I am 34 years old. My favorite all time color is purple. I do have a daughter. Im a single mother. I am a bit of an artsy kind of gal.. I play in an orchestra as a hobby (clarinet in case you are wondering) and I am learning guitar and piano as well. I crochet and knit and can work on a loom. I am nothing like a warrior as you described as a wolf characteristic. I am more of a peace loving – white light kind of person. I can use energy to heal emotional wounds. I am definately not a warrior or hunter kind of person. I don’t believe in killing things. But yet I do feel drawn to the wolf.. maybe even the bear,.. I really dont know though. But I am very motherly though. I do have a bit of a 6th sense and I am good at understanding people because of my 6th sense. I am an empathic person. So….. with all that said… any ideas?

    Dear Bernadette,

I hope you read this. Yesterday I meditated because I felt I was ready to meet my spirit animal. A beautiful white wolf came to me and she allowed me to hug her. She told me that she would protect me, but that I also had to focus and look out for myself as well. Her messages and what I read on your website makes so much sense to me, being in the situation that I’m in now. To be very honest, I have always felt a great admiration for wolves and I was never scared of one. My parents have very good friends and they own two sheep dogs. I’ve always felt so at peace whenever I was around them, but never made the connection until now (I’ve always felt very at peace when I was around big dogs; which a lot of people found astonishing for a very small girl). The description of the wolfs character is creepily accurate to my character, except that I do not really pick on people, but I’m very fast with words when I feel personally attacked. I wanted to ask you if there could be any reason behind the fact that my spirit animal is white? Could my spirit animal also be my power animal because I can relate so much to the wolf? And according to my birthday my totem animal is a bear, an animal to which I can also relate. The description of the bear says that the complimentary spirit animal is a wolf? Can you help me with this?

Thank you very much for the advise on your website!
Helena (I’m 17 years old right now)

  27. Mary Doyle says:

In the early days of May 1988 I became very ill suddenly , but not ill enough to go to hospital. My heart was racing so fast I could hear it beating in my ears, I was agitated and couldn’t keep still. My family were very worried but I kept trying to brush it off for a day or two at the most. By the morning of day two I knew something was very wrong, my eyes looked like they were on stalks they were huge and staring. I felt hot but was cool to the touch and was very pale in colour.

My Mother rang the family doctor, who really didn’t want to listen and tried telling her I was having a panic attack. That night things got really bad, I was so weak I could barely walk , I was exhausted but couldn’t sleep, the constant beating of my heart was also making me breathless, I was to sick to be frightened.

Day three came and my family contacted the doctor again, he still didn’t want to know. My family’s worry was heartbreaking to watch and listen to, so I silently made my way to the bathroom, it was a cool room but also offered solitude , something at that point I really craved. I leaned against the sink catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I looked awful, I turned around and jumping through the wall of the shower was a beautiful wolf, her coat was light grey with flecks of white, her snout and chest were pure white , her eyes were sky blue, she landed and walked up to me wagging her tail, she then sat down beside me. I looked at her and said, “Your beautiful, but you’re also an hallucination , so I’m really ill.”

I exited the room and called my Dad, “Get that doctor here now, I’m at a point of life & death!” Dad did as asked and at last the doctor listened, he arrived at the door continuing his argument in the hall with my parents, upon entering my room he shut up pretty fast and he looked shocked. my sight was getting blurry at this point and the voices in the room were becoming incoherent , I felt something cold being put into my ear and just as it entered a very loud beeping sound went off.

I had a temperature of 105 , luckily doctors carried medication with them in those days and he gave me an antibiotic , the doctor waited and about 20 minutes later my heart had calmed down and I felt a little better. I had a flu virus, no coughing or sneezing but the full flu virus with ever other symptom , It took me 12 weeks to get back to full health and I was immune to the flu that year. If the wolf had not come to me that day I would not have insisted on getting the doctor, but she did and I thank her every time I think of that summer.

What does it mean when a wolf treat you like a daughter? I’ve had a dream that I called him Paka (dad).

  29. Hannah says:

I did a meditation in eighth grade and my spirit animal was a wolf. I always felt a connection to wolves but sometimes I feel more animal than human. I have these dreams and sometimes I stop and feel like I’ve seen this before. Am I having futuristic dreams? I also have these feelings to protect my friends and family and am very protective. I sometimes feel stressed and I close my eyes and I feel this presence calming me down. I don’t get any of it, the feeling like an animal, the futuristic dreams I have, and also I can feel the emotions of others, though only those I am close such as my friends. Does any of this have any meaning?

  30. Allie says:

THIS is SO revealing! OK, will tell u the dream. My daughter is Chief Lonewolf’s direct descendant, a Kiowa princess. Being half Native and half White….I (the white mom) had this awesome dream: I was walking in a white town alone at night…I could hear people telling me not to go, but I did. I crossed the “zone” to the Native side of town and went into a church there. I saw a people trying to steal something, Native people. Then I saw some other church Natives on the upper story looking down where the thief was and me, an observer…I felt this sudden invisible power shove me into an adjoining cafeteria room and looked back into the opening area by the front doors and saw a battle begin between the thief and upstairs church people…

Glass shatters, a fountain was in the middle of the opening room and the thief jumps in it and shift changes into some magical water creature to fight…a while later everything is normal and the people are human Natives again. The pastor/shaman says the church is a home where Native warriors can come practice fighting for when they go to other realms and are needed to fight. I tell him about my daughter and my wish to join the church even tho I was white…

Later the scene changed and I see my young 7 year old daughter…we are planting flowers to take a photo by an old tree near the edge of a road. Right before we were done, some black men come to dig at the ditches and they uproot most all the plants…(note: in real life, my daughter was taken at 3months old and adopted by my white parents)…

The scene is back at the town and I have my young girl and introduce her to the shaman. She is hesitant and says she doesn’t like churches. She and the shaman have a vision and I see that he is showing her what their church really is, a place to develop her Native culture and abilities as a warrior…as the dream ends, I see my daughter change into a huge wolf standing in an upright position and know she’s not just any wolf, she’s a wolverine. I then see myself evolve into the Otter and I leave…dream ends.

She is now 19 and I myself am breaking ties with my abusive hypocritical Christian parents yet sent her a text that she please not share my new phone number with them but that I want her to know her grandparents until she decides differently. I’m torn for I hope this dream is showing I’ve done the right thing…what do you think…thanks so much!

I was meditating one day, in an attempt to meet my Spirit Guide. I came upon an Indian reservation. This was not odd to me, as I am of Native American descent. A wolf appeared to me, then ran into the woods. I was so puzzled I broke from the meditation. My next attempt to meet my Spirit Guide led me to the same reservation, same wolf running into the woods. I don’t know if I was supposed to follow it, but I didn’t, and I didn’t attempt the meditation again. I asked a psychic friend of mine if my Spirit Guide could be an animal.. he told me we have human Spirit Guides, but my spirit animal could absolutely be a wolf and recommended I research it a bit. After reading this article I am more than convinced…. Wolf is my Spirit Animal!! Thank you so much for this informative read!

Thank you so much for this comment because it helped me make a connection to visuals I was seeing in my meditation. When I first started meditating, I saw a teepee and a Native American couple with a baby, then my meditation went on and I had many experiences, but as I was journaling what happened and what visuals I had seen, the word “wolf” came to mind, and I didn’t recall seeing a wolf, but the word didn’t leave my mind. It was a very spiritual experience in which I wondered if I was meeting spirit guides, but now it all makes sense… I think the wolf is my spirit animal as well.

As a human I have an aggressive side. Yet on my calm side I have a compassionate side. In meditation mode I picture a wolf in my vision. The wolf that’s in me can be both aggressive and compassionate. Aggressive towards those who harm the weak and compassionate to those who need a lift.

  37. Maurice says:

I have a dream, I was a Wolf and I feel the power because there was a dog and I knew that I can kill him but I don’t. Maybe finally I found my totem animal and if any of you have comments or knowledge about this please let mi know. My email is akashapower123 @ gmail.com

    Thank you all.

  38. Lily Sand says:

I’ve never actually meditated to find my Spirit Animal. Yet ever since I was a teenager I felt a connection to them, unlike anything else. I’ve been drawn to them ever since, and have unconsciously filled my room with their images. It wasn’t until my husband pointed out that I had so many that I realized what I was doing. I now have a brand new wolf tattoo. So I can carry my Spirit Animal, and the 5 stars that represent my pack, with me for life.

  39. Dalilah Serrano says:

I made a comment in the rabbit comments. I was a wolf. and what I have just read Might possibly describe me, but then again I might be like someone who’s looking for those answers and we will find it where they want to find it. because it suits us or is convenient for us. What’s saying that I agree with what I just read, How do I control the aggressive side of me it seems to be getting worse and worse. I will kill and die for my family and friends without hesitation. but anyone else, strangers or co-workers and recently even my friends and family like my children. If they do something wrong that I do not agree with. And by that I mean, done the correct way and causes someone grief that could have easily been avoided. I’ve become very aggressive and nasty towards them in the ways that I could not hurt them physically. my words are like knives and then Shortly after I become quite physical. I have never been this way. I am currently looking for anger management classes and taking meditation. but once I’m gone from there, I return to the nasty me that I do not like at all. and right after it happens, I am guilty and I know exactly what I did wrong. how do I stop this.

I am not born between Jan 21st and Feb 19th to come under Native American wolf sign but I generally find a lot of similarities between this article and me. Is this because it is convenient for me or I want it to be like this or is Wolf actually my spirit animal?

My sister is born on Jan 24th though and I don’t see anything written here in her so I am a bit confused. I would be glad if anyone can help lessen the confusion and doubt a bit.

  41. Jonathan Blackwell says:

What a fantastic article and definitely helped me undrlerstand myself and my deep connection to wolves. The wolf is my spirit, birth totem and power animal. Thanks so much.

P.s. When you listed the Native American zodiac dates, Wolf was listed as January 21st to February 19th. I’m not sure if that was an error or so, as the Native American Signs corresponds to the Western ones. Just some wolf friendly advice!

hi ive recently had a dream about a loved one lying in bed and a wolf was eside his bed and was in somekind of protective circle like it was a magick circle it was surrounded by a energy field made of crystals and was growling at me as if it was testing me and was protecting him plz tell me this meaning

    • Jarral Elam says:

Edgar that means that your loved one is involved in something you don’t know about… the testing part is a test to see what are you going to do (basically are you involved also)….. your loved one sins are being weighed out… best to leave that alone or if you involve yourself approach with a sign of peace because you obviously may be tempted to save your love one.

  43. Sheila Wolfia says:

Man, I’ve always felt connected to canines, especially wolves. Though I’m not born in between January 21st and February 19th those things are true to me. I’m literally surrounded by wolves, there is a wolf poster on every wall. I have a copious amount of wolf items as well. I’ve been wondering why I feel so strongly connected to the wolf, I’ve always known that it’s my spirit animal, and I’ve never once thought badly of it’s nature. I very much appreciate this website.

I have dreamt of a wolf crashing through my bedroom window. Once in my 20’s and again a couple years ago. I’ve been obsessing over what it could mean?

  46. Elyss says:

Hello and thank you for this wonderful write up on wolf medicine!
I had a rather awe-striking experience with wolf and would like to get more insight as to what it might mean… Once I was visiting a foreign country, they had in captivity, we visited a park where they had the largest, yet one of the last European wolf packs kept in a large domain. Two times a day they were fed and people could go watch..I do not remember the time we were there whether the time of feeding was closeby or not but anyway, people were there, trying to get a glimpse of this pack of legendary creatures. Not one could be seen. When we approached the fence, I immediately felt where they were hiding and something clicked..not long after, they came out of exactly where I had ‘seen’ them… One of the wolves, I think this must have been the alpha although I’m not sure, came straight up to me while the rest stayed a bit back. He stood there right in front of me from across the fence, we were eye to eye. They didn’t seem to be paying attention to anyone or anything else.. I didn’t know what to think or do as the experience was completely bewildering – I had never even seen a wolf in my life! The look on his face felt somewhat familiar, he was very much at ease, yet I could feel a message was being communicated although at the time I think I was a bit too awestruck to even dare to begin try interpret what… I am just trying to find what this encounter could mean.. After this one I had a similar one, where 4 wolves came to greet me at another park, similar, people on Outlook for them, nowhere to be found, I come up to the stand and within seconds four of them emerge from behind the cliff.. Any insights would be much appreciated

    • Aura says:

I had a encounter very similar but more spiritual, I was on a walk collecting plants and I saw a pack of wolves about 50 feet up ahead. I thought that was really cool and howled like a wolf would just for fun. to my surprise the wolves howled back and then ran away. later when I was asleep I had a dream about a wolf talking to me. the only part I can remember is the wolf calling me alpha. it was the best thing that has ever happened to me.

  49. Maya says:

I have also had an amazing encounter with wolves. We were at the International wolf center, where they had four wolves out, and the first time I went up to the window, a wolf walked right up to me, and only to me! He stared right at me. I felt protected by his stare.

  50. Dianna says:

I had the most strikingly intense and out of nowhere experience that I am still searching the meaning for … I was walking in the cedars park with a man I had just met but felt I’d known forever .. we were surrounded by black translucent wolves they were rustling about in the trees encroaching upon us it was weird but somehow I felt protected and Ben tho there were many wolves scampering about in the forest as the sun went down … we left the forest went to the sonic drive in and sat and continued our intense conversation when I saw them approaching the truck I counted 8 some jumping in back of truck approaching doors I donno if the man saw them too but I had never seen anything like it before and just then the door opened and my fiancé and his friends pulled this man out of my truck …. I don’t know how to get ahold of him now or to ever interpret what I saw and felt that night that was definetly like nothing I cld have ever imagined or dreamed seemed we were tapped into an energy field where we understood each other and other invisible powers at hand that then made themselves visible but what did the wolves mean? Warning me of what? Or what did they stay there distance but surround us as we were walking and talking in the forest .. will I see any of them again how do I make sense of this. Life has been rather dull since the encounter and I don’t feel connected to anything but felt so connected in tune then

  53. Mona says:

I was driving down a dark country road one night, no other cars in sight. The moon was full, si I could see well. I came upon a huge white wolf just standing at the side of the road. I slowed down and watched it. It never moved. I looked into it’s eyes and it looked into mine and we just stared at each other for what seemed like forever. This wolf was beautiful beyond imagination. I felt a great sense of happiness and mystique. I have never forgotten that encounter. The image remains strong in my mind, and I believe it always will. Not a day goes by that I don’t see it. This has got to have some meaning. My great grandmother was a Cherokee.

  54. Nate Cook says:

What does the seeing of translucent wolves in the night mean running from a dwelling mean

  55. Jason Scully says:

When I was a child, age 4 to be exact. I had a terrible nightmare, I sweat, and screamed all night upon each awakening only to return to the same dream. A black wolf tearing my limbs off. What was worse I felt the physical pain of it all as I slept. Then again at the age of 19 or 20 I walked home one night from adult school, 3/4th of the way home I came across a black figure of a canine, like a shadow on the ground, only it had no body but it moved either way. I was terrified. I ran as fast as I could. Now I seek answers. Is this my spirit animal or something more malignant? Am I cursed? Or is it one of the darker wisdoms in life guiding me? For now I’m treating it as a guide but I’d like an outside opinion.

    • R. Kenney says:

it is very common for people to first fear their guides. when guides show up it is a call to the soul to transcend the ego, and so it is therefore the unhealthy aspects of the ego that produce fear responses when the guides show up. Because wolves have an element of trickster vibe, this is often the response, in addition because of bad reps that wolves have gotten which has seeped into a lot of archetypal omens that are held by the human collective. I think it is safe to say that wolf is definitely a guide for you at least and if he has been with you since very early youth, he is likely a totem (lifelong guide/ master guide of sorts). as someone who has a penchant for interpreting dreams, your particular dream seems to be saying that the wolf removed your limbs to show you that your true power was not in your physical strength, but within your core. that is often something younger selves, especially children have trouble conceiving on their own because it is unfortunately not a societal norm currently to have personal power as an example, and instead are taught to physically fight to solve our problems and/or to engage others to solve our problems for us. I hope this helps. I am just a person fascinated with this and similar topics, and in studying animal guides I notice all too often what i mentioned above. bravo to you though for being brave enough to consider it a guide through your fears, because most people run from it never actually realizing that there are shared natural behavioral qualities. perhaps even at the time you were displaying dark traits that the wolf is often ascribed, and so it was mirroring to you? just an avenue to consider.

  56. Wolfprincess says:

I would say that the wolf is probably a darkened soul that has become black from being horribly treated in some way. It could be possible that the black wolf tried to show you through your dream how it died or was being tortured. I had a simular dream except it was a human that had been horribly treated. Once I understood that he did not scare me to scare me but to show something that had happened to him he was gone to heaven and I even got to meet him there later through a dream. You are not cursed, I think that you have the gift to see and feel someone elses pain and sometimes that is all that is needed to help someone let go of this world.

Once, I went to Amsterdam Zoo, and we went to the enclosure with the wolves, and one wolf followed me with its eyes and we stared at each for an eternity. Then it bowed its head at me. I walked away slowly without turning my back to it until I could see it anymore. I felt a strong connection with it. An owl is supposed to be my spirit animal, but i have never really felt a connection with an owl. Is a wolf my spirit animal???
