What Do Goats in Dreams Mean?

If you have ever heard the expression “get your goat,” you might connect the goat to irritation, but this is really not the case at all, at least, not at the goat’s expense that is … allegedly the saying comes from racehorses having goats as mascots that otherwise keep the calm while in their stalls … remove the goat before any race and what happens? You have just stripped Lucky Horse from his security blanket, and the irritation and anxiety are on! So, a goat in your dream narrative may have you questioning “just what is it that will get your goat in your waking hours?” What security are you counting on that runs the risk of not being there when you need it? Of course, this is just scratching the surface of what a goat dream message reveals, so let’s explore some more below!

First, there is a connection between the goat and at least one Western Zodiac Sign. The Sea Goat is the zodiac sign of Capricorn so you may be dreaming about a person you know born under this Sun Sign. Or, the dream of a goat may point to a person with a temperament or personality similar to a Capricorn. Take some time to consider who your dream might be pointing to so you can decode the dream message. Of course, in Eastern Astrology, you just might be dreaming of someone born in the Year of the Goat (1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, or 2015).

The goat corresponds with the Greek God Pan, the deity who rules over theatrical criticism, wooded glens, groves, fields, rustic music, the wild nature in the mountains, flocks, shepherds, and all things wild. Pan has legs and hindquarters of a goat, and he is also associated with fertility: Many statues depict Pan with a phallus as an indication of his incredible sex drive. Thus, the connection between Pan and the Goat then leads to the modern understanding of the goat as a symbol virility in dreams; if you are a female, a goat dream may point to the person you find attractive; if you are man, it shows that you are concerned about your own masculinity or manliness.

Goats, by their very nature, are expert climbers and they not only climb to great heights, they do so with little difficulty despite the grossly difficult terrain before them. Thus, when goat enters a dream narrative, it may be indicative of challenges ahead and that you can face things head-on with little difficulty. Or, the dream, if hosting a negative tone, might suggest that a rough road lies ahead, and conquering challenges will be like climbing a mountain. And yet, there is still another message one can derive from the goat’s ability to climb … the goat carefully plots every step it takes, ensuring a sure foot with every step. You might do well to face challenges by planning ahead, plotting your entire course, and being clear about every step you plan to take going forward.

The goat has horns as a defense system and butts into things to push it away; your dream might be asking you what are you trying to push away in your life and are you butting heads to do it? Look carefully at the situation to see if the defenses you are using are working for you or it is time to move on to other landscapes.
